Urban Sky Consort
Urban Sky Consort performs medieval, renaissance, baroque and 20th century vocal music, focusing on works written by and for women. As individual musicians and as an ensemble, the members of Urban Sky Consort have studied with some of the world's most respected vocal and instrumental early music specialists including Julianne Baird, Barbara Thornton, Laurie Monahan, Ellen Hargis, David Douglass and Drew Minter. The ensemble utilizes voices, recorders, early wind instruments and stringed instruments to create lush, haunting, innovative programs that transport the listener to a place the Jamestown Post Journal called "beautiful and memorable" and "wonderfully assured... calming and filled with faith." Among its many achievements, the ensemble was honored in 1996 by the National Federation of Community Broadcasters for its program of works by Hildegard recorded by WQED-FM. Urban Sky Consort's opening program at Logan Chamber Music Series at Chautauqua Institute in June, 1997, was rebroadcast as part of the "Music From Chautauqua" series on WQED-FM 89.3, November 19, 1998. In January of 2006, Urban Sky was the featured group for Chatham Baroque's wildly popular Peanut Butter & Jam Sessions. Urban Sky is currently Ensemble-in-Residence at Aspinwall Presbyterian Church, Aspinwall PA and performs regularly for worship services, concert series and events throughout Western Pennsylvania.
